Job Description:

Utilize instrument tracking system for reports and quality feedback. Maintains competency by attending continuing education seminars and in-services on new equipment and instrumentation. Communicates with vendors to promote compliance with policy and reports non-compliance to leadership. Identifies and reports any environmental concerns to the management team. Assures that the manufacturer instructions for use are closely followed for all equipment and instruments that are reprocessed. Other duties as assigned. Monitors sterilization practices to ensure all standards are met and takes corrective action when necessary. Keeps accurate records of all sterilizer loads and monitors sterilization equipment, delegating equipment as “out of service” when necessary. Ensures safe work practices for all employees, monitors staff use of PPE in decontamination areas, and take appropriate action in emergency situations. Promotes a safe environment and practices awareness and control of hazards that may endanger patients, visitors, and employees. Monitors work environment to ensure infection control standards are met, including daily cleaning and environmental controls. Acts as a liaison between hospital departments to ensure customer needs are met and communicates with staff regarding instrumentation availability. Meets regularly with leadership to discuss departmental needs and quality monitoring results.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.

• Knowledge of Sterilization Standards.

• Basic computer skills.

• Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation.

• Knowledge or experience with computerized instrument tracking system preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating compassion and respect.

• Ability to function independently and follow written or verbal instructions accurately.

• Capable of lifting 35 lbs. independently and prolonged standing.

• Critical thinking, leadership, decision-making, adaptability, time management, conflict resolution, cooperation, mentorship, and positivity.

• Willingness to learn and work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

• Strong background in all areas of central supply.

• Knowledge of infection control procedures, fundamentals of management, purchasing procedures, and parameters of steam and ethylene oxide sterilization.

• Familiarity with proper functioning of all mechanical equipment necessary to decontaminate, sanitize, sterilize, and aerate all items reprocessed.

• Ability to communicate information accurately and timely, effectively train new staff, and maintain appropriate inventory management.

• Previous leadership or management experience preferred.

• Knowledge of all regulatory guidelines and standards of practice as it relates to relevant healthcare standards organizations.
