Job Description:
- Develops and implements orientation and training programs for new surgical technicians.
- Mentors surgical technicians through orientation, training, role transition, career development, and continuing education.
- Utilizes principles of education and adult learning to create effective training programs.
- Integrates current published research and literature into all learning activities.
- Maintains knowledge of national and local trends in surgical technician practice.
- Monitors and reports compliance with required documentation for orientation and training.
- Evaluates orientation and training processes based on healthcare trends, learning needs, and organizational goals.
- Coaches new surgical technicians and collaborates with management on performance evaluation and growth plans.
- Facilitates and evaluates career development activities for surgical technicians.
- Acts as the main liaison with local Surgical Technology programs to foster and maintain academic partnerships.
- Facilitates student placement and ensures a positive student experience within the unit/department.
- Participates in recruitment and interviewing of staff.
- Actively participates, communicates, and serves as a positive change agent for all units'/departments', campuses' and system's initiatives/goals and leadership activities.
- Creates, plans, implements and coordinates activities related to systematic professional learning experiences, based on needs assessments, designed to augment the knowledge, skills and attitudes of assigned staff including continuing education, in-service education, continued competence based on unit/department needs, organization initiatives/goals and policy revisions.
- Monitors and reports compliance with required education.
- Acts as the main liaison with all local Surgical Technology programs to ensure academic partnerships are fostered and maintained.
- Facilitates a supportive environment for academic partnership by ensuring appropriate student placement and a positive student experience within the unit/department.
- Collects data on students’ clinical experience and likelihood to join the organization upon graduation.
- Works with hiring departments and HR to ensure students are interviewed and placed in a timely manner.
- Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities.
- Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the departments.
- Ensures that practice changes, as a result of performance improvement activities, are implemented.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Strong skills related to aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation. [Required]

- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and issues to facilitate appropriate customer support. [Required]
- Ability to work on complex projects independently. [Required]
- Conceptual and practical understanding of various training techniques for users with various learning styles [Required]
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel [Preferred]
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory bodies [Preferred]
- Ability to scrub independently in at least 3 major surgical specialties [Preferred]
Education:
- Bachelor's [Preferred]
- Master's [Preferred]
Field of Study:
- in Surgical Technology or related military training program
Work Experience:
- 9+ of scrub tech experience in a hospital setting [Required]
- Experience in current performance improvement frameworks and methodologies [Preferred]
- Experience in healthcare related education/ training [Preferred]

- Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
- State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR NCCT National Certified Technician in Surgery (TS-C) [Required]
