Behavioral Health Registered Nurse– Part-Time
Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Weekend Worker Program
Schedule: Part-Time |Weekends
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) Weekend Program is responsible for promoting and restoring patient health through the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. This position collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. The RN provides physical, emotional, and educational support to patients and families and may supervise assigned healthcare team members to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care. Care is provided in accordance with facility policies, professional nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and applicable state nurse practice acts.

Essential Functions
- Conducts comprehensive patient assessments, including evaluation of physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle factors affecting health and recovery.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care plans based on patient needs, physician orders, and established standards of care.
- Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitors patient responses to medications and treatments, identifies changes in condition, and communicates findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
- Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and self-care strategies to support health management and compliance.
- Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate and optimize patient care.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation of patient assessments, interventions, communications, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions and modifies care plans as appropriate to achieve desired patient outcomes.
- Supports compliance with infection prevention practices, patient safety standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Provides emotional support and therapeutic communication to patients and families.
- Delegates and supervises patient care activities in accordance with licensure, competency, and organizational policies.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice activities, and ongoing professional development.
- Responds appropriately to emergency and code situations, providing nursing interventions within scope of practice and level of competency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing care methods, procedures, standards of practice, and evidence-based patient care.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to function effectively as a collaborative member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Effective verbal, written, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of EKG interpretation requirements as appropriate for assigned patient populations and departmental needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer proficiency, including electronic medical record systems and Microsoft Windows-based applications.
- Ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and revise plans of care using critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.
- Ability to apply professional nursing knowledge and clinical judgment to support positive patient outcomes.
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience
- One year of acute care hospital nursing experience preferred.
Licensure and Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on the assigned department, specialty area, patient population, facility, or state regulations.
