Job Description:

Serves as a primary contact and advocate for patients during the initial phases of screening and possible cancer diagnosis. Assesses patients’ needs, identifies barriers to care, and makes appropriate referrals to external and internal resources. Facilitates and coordinates timely access to care with the multidisciplinary team to decrease the outmigration of potential newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Educates, tracks, and follows up with women who receive abnormal breast screening results to ensure easy access from diagnostic evaluation to biopsy, if needed. Provides emotional support for patients called back for additional studies. Delivers direct patient nursing care for specified patients, including all pre and post-procedural care, education, and follow-up post-procedural calls to patients. Serves as a liaison between breast imaging, medical oncology, radiation therapy, breast navigators, and the surgical teams. Ensures a smooth transition and coordination of care for patients needing to be referred to the Breast Oncology Nurse Navigator. Develops and maintains a resource library of breast health educational materials for patients that is language-specific. Coordinates and provides logistical support for educational and community outreach events. Documents throughout the patient care continuum in the database or identified software solution. Leads breast cancer support groups and attends the weekly Breast Tumor Board Meetings. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal skills, excellent conflict resolution and communication skills. Ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative, customer service oriented, team environment. [Required]
• Computer proficiency required with the ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports [Required]
• Experience in networking with hospital departments, medical staff, and community groups [Required]
• Leadership, mentorship/clinical resource skills [Required]
• Ability to multitask on a variety of tasks and projects [Required]
• Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) and/or DNV requirements and local, state, and federal regulations [Required]
• Excellent presentation and public speaking skills. [Required]
• Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stressors. [Required]
• Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to prioritize and reprioritize quickly. [Required]
• Knowledge of supportive care principles and techniques for oncology patients. [Required]
• Ability to perform nursing assessments and patient triage. [Required]
• Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment. [Required]
• Critical thinking skills. [Required]
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. [Required]
• Basic knowledge of managed care. [Required]
• Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures. [Required]
• Ability to work autonomously. [Required]
• Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stressors. [Required]
• Strong IV insertion skills [Required]
• Database management knowledge [Preferred]
• Knowledge of NCCN, AJCC, NAPBC, CoC and other oncology clinical management standards [Preferred]

• Associate’s of Nursing [Required]
• Bachelor’s of Nursing [Preferred]

Work Experience:

• 2+ years of hospital nursing experience required upon hire [Required]
• 1+ years of Medical Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, Breast Clinic, or Radiation Oncology clinical experience [Preferred]
