Job Description:

  • Performs comprehensive patient evaluations to determine individualized pulmonary rehabilitation prescriptions.
  • Solicits physician prescriptions and payer approvals for pulmonary rehabilitation on all new referrals.
  • Monitors vital signs of patients and adjusts treatment plans accordingly.
  • Assures a safe environment for the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation exercises, including the availability of oxygen and emergency supplies.
  • Performs all clinical documentation necessary to facilitate achievement of goals and minimize denial of reimbursement, including initial evaluations, weekly summaries, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicates significant information to pulmonary rehabilitation team members and patient’s physicians as indicated.
  • Organizes interdisciplinary team conferences as applicable.
  • Provides instruction to staff members concerning rehabilitation procedures whenever needed or requested.
  • Identifies candidates for smoking cessation counseling and promotes appropriate client utilization of the program.
  • Proactively initiates process improvement ideas and supports hospital and department mission, goals, and metrics.
  • Ensures efficient operation of patient scheduling and flow, promoting cost-management and productive use of resources.
  • Organizes, initiates, and delivers pulmonary rehabilitation according to guidelines and physician referrals to achieve therapeutic and financial objectives. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the patient care record and submitting charges appropriately [Required]
  • Organizational and time management skills including the ability to perform timely client interviews, verify referrals and seek approvals [Required]
  • Utilize and adapt to state-of-the-art technology, computer systems, and applications [Required]

Education:

  • Associate [Required]
  • Bachelor's [Preferred]

Field of Study:

  • Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program
  • in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science

Work Experience:

  • 2+ experience providing rehabilitative therapy to pulmonary patients, or satisfactorily complete a prescribed training program in pulmonary rehabilitation technique [Preferred]

Additional Information:

  • NMBRC credentials must be maintained as a condition of continued role eligibility
  • All States: require NBRC for new hires, and incumbents
  • Florida Exception: legacy incumbents may continue working and may transfer within Florida without a NBRC active credential, subject to an approved, time-limited transition period.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) [Required]
  • Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
  • State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) [Required]
  • Active NBRC Credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) [Preferred]
