







Surgical Physician Assistant or APRN First Assist Full-Time Opportunity with Inpatient & Outpatient Responsibilities

AdventHealth Medical Group Pediatric Plastic Surgery at Orlando is seeking a surgical physician assistant or nurse practitioner to join our growing pediatric subspecialty surgical team, Facial Plastic, Maxillofacial & Oral Surgery in the greater Orlando area. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working collaboratively with a supervising physician in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Strong surgical fundamentals, first assist experience, and pediatric experience are highly preferred.
General Summary:
- Managing pediatric surgical patients and providing first assist support in the operating room
- Collaborating with the supervising physician, pediatric surgery team, and clinical staff to deliver consistent care across inpatient and outpatient settings
- Obtaining and documenting patient histories and physical examinations
- Ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests, CT, MRI, and ultrasound
- Monitoring patient progress and implementing care plans
- Participating in daily inpatient rounds
- Evaluating consultations in the emergency department and outpatient clinic
- Performing bedside procedures with appropriate training and supervision
Surgical Support Responsibilities:
Assistance with pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery procedures, including:
- Cleft lip and cleft palate repair
- Craniofacial reconstruction procedures including craniosynostosis
- Complex facial (free flap)
- Oral & Maxillofacial surgery includes orthognathic (jaw alignment) surgery, temporomandibular procedures.
- Benign dental & jaw tumors
- Minor dental procedures including extractions
- Migraine surgery
- Scar revision procedures
- Local tissue rearrangement and complex closures such as
Assistance with congenital and acquired reconstructive procedures, including:
- Congenital hand and upper extremity anomaly repair
- Soft tissue mass excision
- Burn and trauma-related reconstruction
- Skin grafting and flap reconstruction
- Revision of wounds and deformities
Wound care and postoperative management, including:
- Management of surgical drains, incisions, dressings, and complex wounds
- Suture and staple removal
- Debridement assistance, as appropriate
- Postoperative follow-up and wound surveillance
In-office and bedside procedures such as:
- Fine needle aspiration (FNA) of masses, as credentialed
- Incision and drainage of abscesses
- Botox and chemodenervation procedures, when indicated
- Local anesthetic administration and minor procedure assistance
- Scar and wound assessment
- Dressing changes and postoperative wound checks
- Receive and triage children’s transfer center calls and consults related to pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Schedule Details:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and provide services at AdventHealth Orlando
- Schedule is currently Monday-Friday, Hours per week are variable.
Required Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Nursing
- 1–2 years of surgical, first assist, and/or OR experience preferred
Licensure, Certification, and Registration:
- Current, valid Florida PA or APRN license
- Certification through NCCPA, ANCC, or equival
