Job Description:
Emergency Department Registered Nurse
Bring Your Emergency Department Nursing Experience to AdventHealth
Bring your ED nursing expertise, clinical judgment, and compassionate approach to AdventHealth Ottawa.
As the AdventHealth Ottawa ED Nurse- Mid Shift, you will provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients across the emergency department while collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
The ED Nurse on Mid Shift supports patients and families through urgent and complex healthcare needs, promotes positive outcomes, and delivers care consistent with AdventHealth policies, procedures, professional standards, and applicable state nursing practice regulations.
Location: Ottawa, Kansas
Schedule/Shift: Full-time, 36 hours per week; 10:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
Schedule Flexibility: Two weekends per six-week schedule
What You’ll Do
-
As the Emergency Department Registered Nurse, you will provide safe, compassionate, and clinically appropriate nursing care to emergency department patients.

Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle needs.
-
Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized care plans based on patient needs and standards of care.
-
Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely according to physician orders, hospital protocols, and patient needs.
-
Monitor patients for adverse reactions, changes in condition, and responses to treatment.
-
Respond promptly and effectively to code situations and provide interventions to stabilize patients.
-
Collaborate with physicians, medical staff, ancillary departments, and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate and optimize patient care.
-
Educate patients and families regarding health conditions, treatments, medications, discharge instructions, and self-care strategies.
-
Provide emotional support and therapeutic communication to patients and families.
-
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of patient information, care activities, interventions, and outcomes in the medical record.

Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and adjust the plan of care to support positive patient outcomes.
-
Supervise and delegate care provided by assigned team members to promote quality, safety, and efficiency.

Maintain compliance with infection prevention protocols, safety standards, regulatory requirements, and AdventHealth policies and procedures.

Participate in professional development, performance improvement, and quality improvement activities.
-
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of nursing care methods, procedures, and standards of practice.
-
Ability to work collaboratively as a team member within the emergency department.
-
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
-
Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
-
EKG competency based on patient population and applicable EKG and Advanced Life Support requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
-
Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate Microsoft Windows-based programs and electronic medical records.

Ability to use abstract reasoning to assess patients, evaluate interventions, and revise plans of care based on patient outcomes.

Commitment to patient safety, compassionate care, professional accountability, and continuous improvement.

Organizational and multitasking skills.
Education:
-
Associate degree in Nursing required.
-
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Work Experience:
-
One or more years of experience in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
-
Registered Nurse license required.
-
Basic Life Support certification required.
-
