Job Description:

  • Oversee and leads the AdventHealth physician and APP contracting for the state of Florida. AdventHealth employs thousands of physicians and APPs across numerous office locations. Physician-related managed care services agreements are valued at an annual expected revenue in excess of $800 million.
  • Represents the Managed Care Department across the state of Florida for physician contracting initiatives, advising organization leadership on numerous managed care topics, including employer health plan solutions, reimbursement performance and opportunity, and health plan operational strategies.
  • Manages the entire team of analysts, negotiators and the director who are each responsible for a number of assigned long-term relationships with contracted health plan partners to ensure high levels of performance for those contracts, including negotiating new and updated terms related to reimbursement, operational performance, or other industry best practices.
  • Develops and executes the AdventHealth physician contracting strategy across CFD, WFD and EFD.
  • Leads contract negotiators, analysts and directors ensuring high performance and continued growth and development of relevant knowledge, skills, and expertise.
  • The executive director is the subject matter expert with respect to drafting, revising, and negotiating managed care contract terms and provisions for physician managed care agreements.
  • Assists facility and organizational senior leadership in identifying and executing managed care strategic goals in local markets, including identifying new payer partnerships, improvements of existing payer partnerships, or the removal of under-performing payer partnerships.
  • Assists facility and organizational senior leadership in identifying and executing managed care strategic goals in local markets, including identifying new payer partnerships, improvements of existing payer partnerships, or the removal of under-performing payer partnerships.
  • Intersects as needed with leaders within AdventHealth’s clinically integrated networks across Florida to effectively promote population health initiatives.
  • Demonstrates leadership with the ability to evaluate, plan, and implement effective operational strategy within the Managed Care department in response to growth and change of managed care needs within AdventHealth.
  • Chairs or attends various internal committees assigned to advance the strategic managed care position of AdventHealth, such as the development of new technology or new services.
  • Presents to AdventHealth leadership groups on managed care activity as needed, and updates managed care departmental staff to effectively promote communication on current strategic initiatives, contract changes, and performance improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of managed care insurance, payment models, and reimbursement [Required]
  • Demonstrated understanding of managed care contract terms [Required]
  • Demonstrated understanding of applicable healthcare and contract law [Required]
  • Effective management and leadership skills [Required]
  • Effective decision-making skills [Required]
  • Proven skills in contract negotiation and execution of managed care strategy [Required]
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-management skills [Required]
  • Excellent quantitative, verbal, written, and presentation skills [Required]
  • Solid experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access [Required]

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree [Required]
  • Master’s degree [Preferred]

Field of Study:

  • In Healthcare, Business, Finance, in Healthcare Administration, or other related discipline.

Work Experience:

  • 10+ years progressive experience in contract negotiations for healthcare professional services [Required]
  • 3+ years experience in contract negotiations for value-based healthcare services [Required]
  • 3+ years experience in team management and leadership [Required]
  • 5+ years previous healthcare experience within a large, multi-hospital integrated delivery system [Preferred]
  • Value-based and/or risk contracting experience [Preferred]
  • Clinically integrated network experience (or equivalent) [Preferred]
  • Previous experience with a clinically integrated network, medical home, or other accountable care or risk-based model of healthcare delivery [Preferred]
