Job Description:
- Assigns CPT/HCPCS codes and modifiers for outpatient surgical, interventional, and observation encounters
- Reviews clinical documentation to ensure accurate and complete coding or procedures, services, and observation stays
- Applies knowledge of modifier usage, bundling rules (NCCI edits), and OPPS/APC reimbursement methodologies
- Ensures appropriate coding of multi-component procedures and observation services
- Maintains productivity and turnaround time standards to support DNFB reduction and timely claim submission
- Applies coding guidelines and regulatory standards to ensure compliant coding practices
- Identifies documentation gaps and seeks clarification to ensure accurate representation of services provided
- Supports resolution of coding related edits, denials, and billing issues as needed
- Incorporates audit findings and education into daily coding practice to ensure consistency and continuous improvement
- Maintain current knowledge of coding updates, regulatory changes and organizational standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Advanced knowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding and modifier usage [Required]

Strong understanding of OPPS/APC reimbursement and outpatient coding guidelines [Required]

Expertise in complex procedural coding and documentation interpretation [Required]

Strong knowledge of NCCI edits and bundling rules [Required]

Ability to code moderate to high-complexity procedural encounters [Required]

Understanding of observation coding and documentation requirements [Required]

Strong attention to detail and analytical skills [Required]

Understand the role coders play in meeting team KPIs [Required]

Work Experience:

2+ years of observation and surgery coding [Required] or must successfully complete AdventHealth’s surgery and observation training [Required]
Additional Information:

AdventHealth inpatient surgical coding training program completion may be considered in leu of work experience
Licenses and Certifications:

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) [Required] OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) [Required] OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) [Required] OR Certified Professional Coder (CPC) [Required] OR Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC) [Required]
