Job Description Summary:

As a General & Bariatric Surgical APP, you’ll provide comprehensive care to patients throughout their surgical journey, from initial consultation and preoperative evaluation to postoperative recovery and long-term follow-up. Working collaboratively with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll assess, diagnose, and manage patients undergoing general and bariatric surgical procedures, assist in developing treatment plans, provide patient education, and support care coordination. You’ll contribute to optimizing surgical outcomes, enhancing patient experience, promoting healthy lifestyle changes, and helping patients achieve their weight loss and overall health goals through compassionate, evidence-based care.

Job Description:

• Conduct comprehensive patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments
• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with general surgical and bariatric conditions.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies, laboratory tests, and imaging results.
• Perform procedures within scope of practice and organizational guidelines.
• Provide preoperative assessments and optimize patients for surgical intervention.
• Assist with postoperative management, including wound evaluation, drain management, pain control, and complication surveillance.
• Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, postoperative expectations, lifestyle modifications, weight management, and long-term health maintenance.
• Monitor bariatric surgery patients throughout the continuum of care, including nutritional, metabolic, and weight-loss outcomes.
• Coordinate care with surgeons, dietitians, nursing staff, primary care providers, and other specialists.
• Document patient encounters accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support evidence-based clinical practice.
• Provide hospital rounding, consults, and call coverage as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of general surgery and bariatric surgery principles and practices.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to manage patients across the surgical continuum of care.
• Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and clinical documentation.

Education:

• Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program [Required].

Work Experience:

• 1+ years of related work experience

Licenses and Certifications:

• Current and unrestricted state licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) [Required].
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification [Required].
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification [Preferred]
