Job Description:
-
Conducts oncology distress screenings and psychosocial assessments to evaluate the full impact of cancer on patients and caregivers.
-
Develops and implements treatment plans with patients and caregivers to enhance psychosocial functioning during and after cancer treatment.

Provides individual and family counseling, crisis intervention, and therapeutic support groups specific to oncology.
-
Assesses patients' and caregivers' understanding of diagnosis and treatment needs, and facilitate adherence to treatment recommendations.
-
Evaluates patients' functional, emotional, and psychiatric status, providing clinical interventions and referrals to mental health treatment as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent written and communication skills with patients, families, and caregivers as well as other members of the healthcare team, including conflict management and advocacy.
• Ability to uphold professional standards by adhering to the NASW Code of Ethics, AOSW Standards of Care for Oncology Social Workers.
• Knowledge of growth and human development, ethnicity, spirituality, individual personality, sexuality, and family life specific to oncology and illness adjustment for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric cancer patient, caregiver, and family members. Knowledge of advanced directives, including DNR. Knowledge of home health care, palliative care, and hospice care.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal entitlement programs and oncology-specific community resources and support programs.
• Ability to maintain a professional appearance and work environment which reinforces a client-centered, therapeutic relationship.

• 3+ experience in oncology/hematology/palliative care social work [Required]• Experience in clinical counseling, including palliative and end-of-life issues [Preferred]• Oncology medical social work [Preferred]
