Job Description Summary:

JOB SUMMARY

Functions as a member of the medical care management team. Provides medical treatment under the supervision of the attending physician. This medical care will be provided within the framework of the hospital’s medical staff privilege delineation criterion.

The Surgical Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or Surgical Physician’s Assistant (PA) provides self-directed, effective care to groups of patients and other duties as assigned in accordance with Division of Services standards.

The observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care; health teaching and counseling of the ill, injured, or infirmed; and the promotion of wellness, maintenance of health and prevention of illness and others.

The administration of medication and treatments as prescribed or authorized by a duly licensed practitioner authorized by the laws of this state to prescribe such medications and treatments.

The supervision and teaching of other personnel in the theory and performance of any of the above acts.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships with other departments.
  • Demonstrates organizational commitment standards and values
  • Adheres to organizational standards for dress and professional appearance.
  • Provides required documentation for personnel file in a timely manner.Utilizes time effectively and accomplishes duties in necessary timeframe with minimal supervision.
  • Assists staff in the delivery of patient care: assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital, division, and unit Standards of Care and Practice by serving as a resource person to nurses and physicians during assigned shift.
  • Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the delivery of patient care services
  • Educates staff as to their affirmative duty to report incidents, the necessity of such reporting and proper mechanisms of incident reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with core measure/HCAHPS composite benchmarks.
  • Documentation meets criteria for core measure, charges, PI, and all quality/regulatory standards as measured by chart audits.
  • Assists in completing, monitoring, and evaluation of unit-based Performance Improvement activities.
  • Keeps abreast of pertinent changes related to clinical information from CMS and other regulatory agencies.
  • Initiates orders with physician countersign.
  • Collection of comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health/situation and unit specific data for process improvement initiatives including initial patient assessment within expected timeframe, initiates consults as indicated from database collection, identifies patient/family teaching and discharge planning needs.
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine expected outcomes and plan of care

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • The patient’s plan of care is developed, individualized, and prioritized daily in collaboration with the patient, family and health team members that is sensitive to the patient’s cultural and spiritual needs and to attain expected outcomes.
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of expected patient outcomes and unit specific process improvement outcomes daily with patient, family, and health team members.
  • Maintains safe practice by demonstrating unit specific clinical competency and demonstrating compliance with all regulatory standards
  • Demonstrates safe practice in the administration of medications.
  • Ensures safe and effective handoff communications and documentation of such between care givers.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to pain management by alleviating and reducing pain to level acceptable to patient.
  • Integrates ethical decision making into daily nursing practice
  • Integrates research findings and Evidence Based Practice into practice
  • Acts as a patient advocate
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills appropriate to level of experience
  • Integrates population specific standards when planning care
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional and personal growth-i.e. completes all mandatory educational requirements, maintains unit based certification, acts as designated preceptor, acts as designated resource nurse, member of professional nursing organization, attains national certification, attends hospital wide committees, member of shared governance council.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • MSN (Masters of Nursing) or Physician Assistant Studies
  • One + years’ experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Florida.
  • Advanced Registered Nurse Certification or NCCPA
