Job Description:

Demonstrates commitment to all department and corporate compliance policies. Performs other duties as assigned. Coordinates clinical rotations for school affiliations in healthcare programs. Serves as a liaison with pharmaceutical and product representatives to provide ongoing education on new drugs and technology. Provides didactic, lab, clinical training, instruction, and functional education for all Surgical Services. Develops, implements, and evaluates orientation programs for new employees and coordinates clinical rotations. Supervises and monitors Preceptor activities and the Graduate Nurses in Surgical Services. Provides continuing education and in-services based on staff and facility needs. Coordinates department-specific learning needs through ALN. Acts as a resource for staff educational opportunities and guides the development of educational programs. Coordinates and conducts American Heart Association classes. Manages the Operating Room Nurse Intern Program, surgical tech, and RN student programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 

  • Demonstrates leadership ability and educator competency, with a clear commitment to education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.
  • Shows proficiency in computer skills, including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office.
  • Exhibits effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with proficiency in the English language.
  • Capable of interacting as a speaker with excellent presentation skills.
  • Possesses the ability to deal well with people, problem solve, confront/resolve issues, motivate others, and plan, organize, and direct the activities of others.
  • Knowledgeable of current standards relevant to healthcare and surgical services (e.g., AORN, ASPAN, SGNA, AAMI).
  • Demonstrates Whole Care and Service Standards emphasizing patient and staff relations.

Education:

  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Required]
  • Master's in nursing or related healthcare field [Preferred]

Work Experience:

  • 2+ years of nursing experience in a hospital setting [Required]
  • 1+ years of experience in specialty area applying for [Preferred]
  • Circulating and Scrub experience in Surgical Services Areas including OR and Endoscopy [Preferred]
  • Experience as preceptor [Preferred]
  • Previous teaching experience in formal/informal settings [Preferred]
  • 1+ years of experience as an NPD Practitioner [Preferred]

Additional Information:

  •  Other specialty certification applicable to the area of practice [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) [Required]
  • Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) [Required
  • ANCC – Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) [Preferred]
