Registered Dietitian

As a Registered Dietitian, you'll play a vital role in improving the health and well-being of patients through evidence-based nutrition care. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams, you'll help patients achieve their health goals through individualized nutrition interventions, education, and compassionate support.

The Registered Dietitian applies the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process (NCP) to assess, diagnose, develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans for adult and pediatric patients. This role provides evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), nutrition counseling, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with professional practice standards, regulatory requirements, and AdventHealth policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive nutrition assessments through medical record review, patient interviews, anthropometric measurements, nutrition-focused physical examinations, and evaluation of clinical data.

  • Analyze assessment findings to identify nutrition risk factors, nutrition diagnoses, malnutrition indicators, learning needs, and health behaviors affecting patient outcomes.

  • Develop, implement, document, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans utilizing the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process (NCP).

  • Provide evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), nutrition counseling, education, and referrals to support individualized patient goals.

  • Utilize patient-centered counseling techniques that promote health literacy, cultural sensitivity, and behavior change.

  • Monitor patient progress and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition interventions while modifying care plans as appropriate.

  • Document accurate, complete, and timely nutrition assessments and interventions within the electronic health record.

  • Enter nutrition-related orders in accordance with approved medical staff policies and procedures.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.

  • Identify and address complex discharge planning needs to support safe transitions of care and achievement of nutrition goals.

  • Serve as a nutrition resource for clinical teams, foodservice staff, patients, and families.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement projects, research activities, and departmental goals.

  • Assist in the orientation, training, and supervision of dietetic interns, registration-eligible dietitians, dietetic technicians, and new team members.

  • Develop, review, and maintain patient education materials, clinical resources, and departmental reference tools.

  • Support regulatory readiness and compliance with accreditation and survey requirements.

  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, physicians, leadership, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and evidence-based nutrition practice

  • Proficiency in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process (NCP)

  • Ability to complete comprehensive nutrition assessments and develop individualized nutrition care plans

  • Knowledge of nutrition diagnosis development, intervention strategies, and outcome monitoring

  • Ability to assess energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber, fluid, vitamin, and mineral requirements using evidence-based standards

  • Knowledge of nutrient analysis software and nutrition-related healthcare technology

  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation

  • Microsoft Office proficiency

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and healthcare compliance practices

  • Ability to identify nutrition-related barriers and develop solutions that improve patient outcomes

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent customer service and patient-centered communication skills

  • Ability to provide culturally sensitive nutrition counseling and education

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, case managers, foodservice teams, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals

  • Ability to develop and maintain educational materials and clinical resources

  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles and performance improvement processes

  • Ability to independently prioritize responsibilities and manage multiple patient needs

  • Commitment to professional development and continuing education

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required.

Field of Study

  • Dietetics, Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, or a related field.

Work Experience

  • Clinical nutrition experience preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) required.

  • Additional licenses, certifications, or credentials may be required based on state regulations, business unit, specialty area, or practice setting.
