Job Description:
- Monitors and evaluates critical cardiac rhythms and EKG analysis in-person and from remote transmissions based on global billing periods.
- Interrogates, interprets, and re-programs cardiac devices, providing full disclosure reports for physician approval and entry to EMR.
- Monitors heart failure reports remotely for ICD and CRT devices monthly, providing full disclosure reports to the cardiologist per notification protocol for approval and entry to EMR.
- Evaluates remote alerts daily from all device websites, retrieves and triages information, and prepares full disclosure reports for physician approval based on notification protocols.
- Determines when adequate test results have been obtained and consults supervisor when results are not adequate.
- Communicates critical findings to supervisor or physician directly and immediately.
- Schedules device interrogation appointments correctly based on global periods to support safe device follow-up care.
- Ensures all charges are entered accurately daily, including correct diagnosis codes.
- May require travel to multiple cardiology arrhythmia service locations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of all programmer equipment, standard tests and procedures, and typical readings including arrhythmias and abnormalities. [Required]
- Knowledge of typical patient reactions and signs of distress including the ability to recognize, report and treat potentially lethal arrhythmias. [Required]
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiac medications. [Required]
- Must be detail oriented and able to perform all job requirements in an independent environment. [Required]
- Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements. [Required]
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities by providing a variety of remote checks, in-office interrogations, and programming of implanted cardiac devices. [Required]
- Reviews abnormal device checks with the Cardiologist or Nurse Practitioner. [Required]
- Identifies device and/or lead issues and programs to correct if possible. [Required]
- Performs noninvasive pacemaker studies with the physician in the clinic setting. [Required]
- Identify patients who may need device upgrade, lead revision, and generator change. [Required]
- Schedules remote follow-up and calls patient after each remote transmission. [Required]
- Maintains accurate patient implant data in database. [Required]
- Review and return to appropriate device company, quarterly follow-up reports to device registry. [Required]
- Place ambulatory monitors and provide education on monitor use and return instructions. [Required]
- Download Holter monitors using software and interpret data as required. [Required]
- Mentors and trains other team members on implantable devices. [Required]
- Advanced ECG knowledge through direct work experience or course completion. [Required]
Education:
- High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
Licenses and Certifications:
- Basic Life Support – CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) [Preferred]
- Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) [Preferred]
- American Association Medical Assistants (CMA) [Preferred] OR Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) [Preferred] OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) [Preferred] OR National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) [Preferred] OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) [Preferred] OR Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) [Preferred]
